life’s last laugh ----------------- Do you ever see life flash past your very eyes All the while laughing in your face? “You’ll never catch me,” says the joker. “You keep this up and you’ll follow me to your grave.” All the while running, running. “For who? Me? little ‘l’ life me?” All the while laughing, laughing. Flitting from your dreams to your subconscious, Insinuating hopes. Then gone! “You think you’ve caught my shadow. Holding on to dreams I’ve left behind. Let’s raise the ante. I’ll look Life straight in the eyes.” All the while hiding, hiding. But the last laugh is on the joker. For while he was leading you on, You left the chase and Sailed off to the great unknown. Offering Life to chance and fate. Unpublished work © 2003 Gary Peck.
